LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Will Smith will executive produce a new Fox series based on Hitch.

The 46-year-old actor portrayed matchmaker Alex "Hitch" Hitchens in the original 2005 film. Smith will produce alongside wife Jada Pinkett Smith and James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett of Overbrook Entertainment, while Can't Hardly Wait writers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont will pen the script.

Hitch follows professional "date doctor" Hitch as he coaches client Albert Brennaman (Kevin James) to woo celebrity Allegra Cole (Amber Valleta). The character finds himself at a loss when his tried and true methods fail to work on his own love interest, gossip columnist Sara Melas (Eva Mendes).

The television series will be shot in a single-camera style, and explore dating and sexual politics in the workplace.

Smith last appeared as Judge in an Akiva Goldsman adaptation of Winter's Tale. The actor is scheduled to star in a number of upcoming films, including Focus, Hancock 2, Bad Boys 3 and The American Can.
