LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Breaking Bad actress Anna Gunn is returning to the small screen Thursday in Fox's new crime drama Gracepoint.

The show is an American remake of the British series Broadchurch and follows the lives of the members of a "picturesque community" that is devastated when an 11-year-old boy is found dead. David Tennant and Olivia Colman starred as two detectives trying to solve the murder in the U.K. version of the show.

Gunn will take on Colman's role in the series as Detective Ellie Miller, while Tennant will reprise his role -- with a different accent -- in the American version of the show.

Gunn has said she was "swept away" by the duality of Miller's character after watching Broadchurch.

"The fact that she was really strong but confident," she explained. "She's got a soft heart. She believes deeply in the goodness of people. I just loved that she had so many things going on at the same time ... She was trying to be a good mom and a good detective and a good wife."

Gunn, who received two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role as Skyler White on Breaking Bad, practiced for her new role by riding along with police officers dressed as a cop in Los Angeles.
