LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Gene Simmons will launch a new reality singing competition called Coliseum next month at Mipcom.

The former Kiss rocker will team up with Sierra/Engine Television for the show in which contestants will form bands that will battle against each other "like singing Roman gladiators," Variety reports.

The bands will perform weekly tracks on the genre of their choice and will be tasked with creating unforgettable acts that will be judged by three "musical guests legends." Simmons will serve as the bands' mentor.

The winner will be chosen by both the audience and Simmons after a final show, which will take place in front of a large crowd.

"Coliseum is a no-holds-barred competition show between musical gladiators in the arena fighting to survive, fighting to be the champion, fighting to curry the favor of Rock Caesar," the 65-year-old singer said in a press release. "Thumbs up or thumbs down, only the strong survive."

The rocker will pitch the show at the upcoming Mipcom convention, an annual television show market that takes places at Cannes, along with co-creator Sierra/Engine Television CEO Chris Philip.
