LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- James Van Der Beek is to co-star in CSI: Cyber, a new police procedural scheduled to premiere during the 2014-15 television season, CBS announced.

The Dawson's Creek alum will play FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, an expert in battlefield forensics recruited by Patricia Arquette's Special Agent Avery Ryan for his war efforts in Afghanistan.

Mundo is described as "a savant when it comes to weaponry, vehicles and bombs" and "a self-proclaimed action junkie."

"We are excited to welcome an actor of James Ver Der Beek's caliber to CSI: Cyber. Over his career, he has demonstrated a tremendous range of talent that makes him a perfect addition to our gifted cast," the show's executive producers said in a statement.

Van Der Beek's additional television credits include Friends with Better Lives, How I Met Your Mother, Criminal Minds and Don't Trust the B--- in Apartment 23.
