Candid Camera initially aired as a radio program called Candid Microphone, and premiered on television in 1948. Each episode presents unusual or uncomfortable situations to ordinary people and captures their reaction on tape. When the joke is revealed, victims are told the show's catchphrase, "Smile, you're on Candid Camera!"

Allen Funt hosted the program from its inception to 1993, and Peter joined his father as co-host in 1987. The series aired uninterrupted, albeit on several networks, from 1948 to 1967, and sporadically between 1974 and 2004. Dina Eastwood last hosted the program on the Pax channel from 2001 to 2004.

The Mayim Bialik-hosted Candid Camera revival premieres Monday, August 11 on TV Land. New episodes will air through Thursday, August 14, and on Tuesdays after that. The program has started production and already pranked people in Chicago and New York.
