LOS ANGELES, June 26 (UPI) -- Piper Perabo has been playing CIA trainee Anne "Annie" Walker since the USA Network action drama, Covert Affairs debuted on television in 2010.

While speaking about the growth of her character over the past five seasons with The Charlotte Observer, the 37-year-old actress said Annie's ability to evolve is what has kept the show interesting.

"We went from a mission of the week in the first season to an agent with five years of experience who is always evolving," she said. "Now, Annie has a superhero quality that at times borders on fantasy because she's so good."

In addition to bringing Annie to life, Perabo said she enjoys working in a television series because the cast is like a supportive family. The Coyote Ugly star described her costar and on-screen lover Christopher Gorham as "one of the nicest guys on the planet."

Covert Affairs' fifth season premiered Tuesday.
