"Pretty Little Liars has taken its place in the zeitgeist and reigns supreme in pop culture," said Ascheim. "I am glad to bring another two seasons to our audience because 'A' has a lot in store for our Liars."

The upcoming sixth season is set to premiere in mid-2015 and the seventh season will follow suit in mid-2016.

PLL is the television adaptation of the homonymous set of novels by Sara Shepard about a group of friends who are tormented by an anonymous foe that threatens to reveal their darkest secrets. In addition to holding the record as the most tweeted scripted show on television, PLL is the No.1 series in ABC Family's history.

Tuesday's premiere, "EscApe From New York," found the liars: Hanna (Ashley Benson), Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Emily (Shay Mitchell), dealing with "A" in the wake of Ezra's shooting.
