NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- Harry Hamlin said he received hate mail after his Mad Men character called Jon Hamm's Don Draper a bully.

In one scene of the AMC television drama, Hamlin's character, Jim Cutler, says to Draper, "You're just a bully and a drunk."

"Aw, man! I got so much hate mail for that," Hamlin told the Today show. "People love Don Draper. ... I told the truth -- the guy is a drunk and a bully -- but people do not like that."

Hamlin said many of the fans failed to realize he was just going by the script.

"Some people don't get that, but that's OK," he said.
