LOS ANGELES, May 14 (UPI) -- CBS' hit sitcom Two and a Half Men is coming to an end after 12 seasons.

The network's president Nina Tassler made the announcement Wednesday while revealing CBS's upcoming fall schedule. Tassler said the show's last term would be a "season-long finale event."

"[Chuck Lorre] is very psyched about this," Tassler said. "He's got some great ideas in store and some very big surprises."

Asked if the series former star Charlie Sheen would be returning for the show's last season, Tassler said it's up to series creator, Lorre.

"I would like to see whatever Chuck would like to," Tassler hedged. "Chuck knows his show better than me...he has a lot of surprises in store, I don't know if that's one of them."

Men was originally about jingle writer Charlie Harper (Sheen) who is forced to live with his newly divorced brother Alan (Jon Cryer) and his son Jake (Jones). The series underwent several changes throughout its course as Sheen was fired and replaced by Ashton Kutcher as millionaire Walden Schmidt in 2011. Jones' character was also written out of the show in 2012, he was replaced by Amber Tamblyn's Jenny, Charlie's long-lost illegitimate daughter.

Men is the longest running comedy series on television. The show had an average of 9 million viewers and a 2.3 ratings in the 18 to 49 demographic for its 11th season.
