STAMFORD, Conn., May 7 (UPI) -- Football player-turned-actor Terry Crews has been named the new host of the syndicated television game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, ABC announced Wednesday.

Crews will replace the outgoing presenter, Cedric the Entertainer, starting with the show's 13th season, which will kick off this fall.

"Terry is engaging, endearing, smart, and quick on his feet -- the perfect combination to lead one of the longest-running franchises in game-show history," Janice Marinelli, the president of Disney-ABC Domestic Television, said in a statement.

Crews is also part of the ensemble of the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
