Mekhi Phifer files for bankruptcy, says he is $1.3M in debt

The actor is best known for his roles in "ER" and "8 Mile."

LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) -- Actor Mekhi Phifer has filed for bankruptcy, stating back taxes, legal bills and delinquent child support payments have put him $1.3 million in debt.

Phifer, 39, is best known for his work on TV's ER, White Collar, Lie to Me and House of Lies, and in the films 8 Mile and Divergent.

In the bankruptcy filing he made last month, he said he had $67,000 in assets, which include a leather bed, a 12-year-old Segway and several guns.

He also noted his living expenses total about $11,600 a month, while his income is about $7,500.
