Barbara Walters Day: Day dedicated to broadcaster in NYC

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaims May 16 Barbara Walters Day during "The View" appearance.

NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed it Barbara Walters Day on May 16, the day she's set to retire from broadcasting.

The View host announced her retirement earlier this month, though she says she plans to remain on the show as executive producer and will "pop in from time to time."

De Blasio honored Walters' 55-year career in the industry when he made the proclamation Monday.

To honor her last day on air on The View, all 11 past and present hosts of the television show will appear in an upcoming special episode.
