NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- David Letterman has interviewed Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr for the special "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles," CBS said.

The program is to air Sunday, exactly 50 years after the British band appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show." It will feature numerous artists performing covers of the Beatles' hits.

Letterman conducted the interview with McCartney and Starr without a studio audience Tuesday at New York's iconic Ed Sullivan Theater, home to Letterman's "Late Show" and the site of the Beatles' historic 1964 appearance.
