LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis thanked Ellen DeGeneres Tuesday in Los Angeles for her support of their song "Same Love" before it became a hit.

"We have a lot of praise to show you, because this was the first time that we ever performed live on television," People.com reported Macklemore said on DeGeneres' talk show. "You got behind 'Same Love' before anybody else did. Before it was a radio song, before it was out there with the video on MTV, you were behind it."

"It's a beautiful song," said DeGeneres, who is married to actress Portia DeRossi. "I'm so glad it's become such a huge success and more people are hearing it."

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis first performed the gay-rights anthem on DeGeneres' show in 2012.

They also sang it last Sunday night during the Grammy Awards ceremony as 33 gay and straight couples were wed in the audience by recording artist-actress Queen Latifah.

The rap duo won four Grammy Awards throughout the evening.
