LOS ANGELES, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Actor Michael Muhney announced via Twitter he has been fired from the U.S. soap opera "The Young & the Restless."

"I'm so sorry. It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday," Muhney tweeted Tuesday. "I have 3 final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details will follow... #xoxoxo."

Muhney, who has played Adam Newman on the daytime drama since 2009, did not disclose in his Twitter message any other details about his termination.

TVGuide.com said his last episode will air Jan. 30.
