'The Killing' is revived by Netflix for a fourth season

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Netflix says it has ordered a fourth season of the twice-canceled cult series "The Killing," The Hollywood Reporter said.

The first three seasons of the mystery drama aired on AMC, but the cable network said during the summer it decided against renewing it for a fourth season because of low ratings. The show had previously been canceled following its second season for the same reason, but AMC gave it another chance after dedicated fans protested the decision.

The Seattle-set series' stars Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos are to return for the six-episode fourth and final season, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said, adding production is to begin in Canada in February.

"The rich, serialized storytelling in 'The Killing' thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send-off," Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix, said in a statement Friday. "We are looking forward to offering fans -- both existing and new -- a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing."
