"There is no better barometer of the cultural events and top personalities of the world than People magazine," Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC Entertainment, said in a statement Wednesday. "This awards show will bring to light all who have broken through the clutter to make their voices heard throughout the year."

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Dick Clark Productions and NBC on The People Magazine Awards, which will provide a snapshot of the most compelling and talked about people and pop culture topics that grabbed our attention and drove the conversation throughout the year," said Larry Hackett, editor of People magazine.

"People magazine is the most influential celebrity and entertainment news vehicle in America, making them the perfect partner for us to create a year-end awards show recognizing the year's best and most talked about people across, film, television, music, sports and the social landscape," said Allen Shapiro, chief executive officer of Dick Clark Productions.
