Laura Benanti to guest star on 'Elementary'

NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Broadway actress and singer Laura Benanti is to guest star on the mystery series "Elementary," CBS announced.

Benanti is to play a woman from detective Sherlock Holmes' past, who resurfaces in the Oct. 17 episode of the show, which is now in its second season.

"When the CEO of a financial consulting company is poisoned to death, Holmes and Watson are called upon to track down the killer," a synopsis said. "Meanwhile, a woman from Sherlock's past emerges as a possible suspect."

Jonny Lee Miller plays Holmes and Lucy Liu plays Joan Watson.
