Breaking News: Convicted Boston Marathon bomber Tsarnaev will seek a new trial

A&E plans Americanized version of 'Les Revenants'

Sept. 27, 2013 at 6:41 PM

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A&E Network says it is developing a U.S. adaptation of the French film and TV zombie-themed series "Les Revenants."

The show will focus on a small town turned upside-down when several local people, long presumed dead, suddenly reappear and attempt to resume their lives, while strange phenomena and gruesome murders begin to occur, a synopsis said.

David McKillop, A&E's general manager and executive vice president, announced Friday the network ordered an Americanized version of the French franchise.

"The Returned" will be a co-production of A&E Studios and FremantleMedia North America.

"'The Returned' takes an incredibly unique approach, filled with suspense and twists and turns, to the subject of the living dead," McKillop said in a statement. "Part mystery, part thriller; 'The Returned' is a perfect complement to A&E's unique brand of scripted storytelling."

"Having seen Fabrice Gobert's original version and the success the series has had in France, we're thrilled to be partnering with the team at A&E to bring this enigmatic thriller to U.S. audiences," said Thom Beers, chief executive officer of FremantleMedia North America.

No casting or premiere date were announced.
