LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Fox is developing "Gotham," a drama about U.S. comic-book cop James Gordon and the villains he tries to put behind bars, EW.com said.

The series will also focus on the Wayne family before Bruce became hero Batman.

Bruno Heller will executive produce the hourlong origins story, which has already received a series commitment from Fox, the report said.

No casting or anticipated premiere date have been announced yet.

The project follows a recent trend of small-screen comic-book adaptations such as "Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "The Walking Dead."
