LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Bill Nye "the Science Guy" hurt his knee while performing on "Dancing with the Stars" in Los Angeles Monday night, ABC said Tuesday.

"We can confirm Bill Nye was injured during his performance last night and is currently seeking medical attention," a network representative told E! News. "We will continue to keep you posted on his progress."

E! News said the 57-year-old television personality may need surgery to repair his injury.

Nye is paired with partner Tyne Stecklein for the competition, which is now in its 17th season.

Keyshawn Johnson was the first celebrity eliminated from the show this season Monday night.
