LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- "Nurse Jackie" co-star Merritt Wever won the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in Los Angeles Sunday night.

"Thank you so much. I gotta go. Bye," the stunned actress said as she collected the first prize presented during the show.

"Merritt Wever, best speech ever," Neil Patrick Harris, the show's host, quipped when the ceremony returned from a commercial break right after Wever's ultra-brief acceptance speech.

Wever beat out fellow nominees -- Mayim Bialik for "The Big Bang Theory," Jane Lynch for "Glee," Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen for "Modern Family," Jane Krakowski for "30 Rock" and Anna Chlumsky for "Veep" -- for the honor.
