NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Syfy says it plans to air the 13-episode first season of the Canadian werewolf series "Bitten" in 2014.

The show is based on the New York Times best-selling "Women of the Otherworld" novels by Kelley Armstrong.

The supernatural thriller stars Laura Vandervoort as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence.

"'Bitten' is a fantastic blend of supernatural action, intense thrills, smouldering drama and a tortured love story that artfully adapts characters beloved for more than a decade by millions of readers around the world," Chris Regina, Syfy's senior vice president of programming, said in a statement Tuesday.
