Grant Gustin tapped to play The Flash in 'Arrow'

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Former "Glee" actor Grant Gustin said he'll play The Flash in the CW's "Arrow," which may launch a spinoff series focusing solely on the speedster.

Gustin will play the super fast hero and his alter ego, Barry Allen, in three episodes of the upcoming season of "Arrow," the last of which could serve as a backdoor pilot for a "Flash" spinoff, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

"Arrow" co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisbert, as well as director David Nutter, are behind the potential spinoff, and will pen and direct all three episodes featuring The Flash, along with DC Entertainment writer Geoff Johns.

"When we first meet Barry Allen, he's just a forensic scientist ... an ordinary man," Kreisberg said.

"Part of the fun for the audience ... is to see how we view our Arrow take on the Flash legacy," he added. "Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we're approaching Barry."

Gustin previously appeared in a multiple-episode arc on "90210" and "CSI: Miami."

"I'm unbelievably excited. I've been a lifelong fan of DC Comics, so I can't be more honored and can't wait to get started," he said.
