Actress Karen Black dead at 74

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Actress Karen Black, who co-starred in "Easy Rider," "Five Easy Pieces" and "Nashville," died of cancer Thursday, her husband announced on Facebook. She was 74.

Stephen Eckelberry has said Black began battling ampullary cancer in November 2010 and by March of this year was emaciated and "mostly bed-bound."

The actress' other film credits include the 1974 version of "The Great Gatsby," as well as "Portnoy's Complaint," "Capricorn One," "The Day of the Locust," "Family Plot," "Burnt Offerings," "Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering," "House of 1000 Corpses" and "Dark Blood," The Hollywood Reporter said.

She also guest-starred on numerous TV series, such as "The Big Valley," "Mannix," "Adam-12," "Murder, She Wrote," "Family Guy" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
