LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Country singer Keith Urban will be back as a judge on "American Idol" for a second season, Fox announced Thursday.

"Keith is going to return to the show," network entertainment chief Kevin Reilly told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour. "The fans really liked him. Keith is a really funny guy."

As for whether former judge Jennifer Lopez might also return after taking last season off, Reilly said, "There have been discussions, but there is no deal."

Urban served on the judges' panel last season alongside Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson -- all of whom said last spring they would not return to the show for Season 13.
