UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., July 11 (UPI) -- Jenna Elfman has joined the cast of the new U.S. sitcom "Growing Up Fisher," NBC announced.

Elfman will play the role of Joyce, the wife of J.K. Simmons' character Mel Fisher.

Mel is described in a show synopsis as "the proud family patriarch who does not let his blindness affect him as a father, husband and breadwinner."

Elfman recently appeared on NBC's "1600 Penn." She is best known for her role on "Dharma and Greg."

Jason Bateman serves as narrator of "Growing Up Fisher," which will premiere in mid-season, NBC said.
