McCartney, 35, appearing on "Breakfast Club," stared at hosts Bill Turnbull and Susanna Reid, giving monotone and often brief answers to their questions. He was promoting "Me," his first album.
Asked if his father was a "friendly critic," he responded "friendly critic -- constructive criticism, definitely yeah." When Turnbull asked jokingly, after spotting the elder McCartney's name in the album credits, "Paul McCartney, who's he," the son replied, "Oh, he's my father."
Entertainment website E! said many viewers described the interview as "excruciating."
The younger McCartney has embarked on a tour of the United States with 47 appearances planned in 27 states.
