'Days of Our Lives' wins top award at Daytime Emmys

LOS ANGELES, June 16 (UPI) -- "Days of Our Lives" caused a shocking upset in Los Angeles Sunday night, winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Drama for the first time since 1978.

"The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful" had won key prizes earlier in the evening, but failed to snare the top award.

"Y&R" leading man Doug Davidson won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama. His co-star, Billy Miller, shared the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama prize with Scott Clifton from "Beautiful."

"Beautiful" also earned the accolades for Best Drama Writing Team, Best Drama Directing and Best Actress for cast member Heather Tom.

The Best Supporting Actress honor went to Julie Marie Berman for "General Hospital," while her co-star, Kristen Alderson, won for Best Younger Actress.

"Days" co-star Chandler Massey was named Best Younger Actor.

"The Dr. Oz Show" won for Best Talk Show -- Informative, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" earned the trophy for Best Talk Show -- Entertainment and Ricki Lake was declared Best Talk Show Host for the recently canceled "Ricki Lake."

"The Price is Right" was named Best Game Show and Ben Bailey of "Cash Cab" Best Game Show Host.

"Best Thing I Ever Ate" and "Trisha's Southern Kitchen" tied in the category for Best Culinary Program, and Lidia Bastianich of "Lidia's Italy" won the Emmy for Best Culinary Program Host.
