Broadway stars joke about their canceled TV shows

NEW YORK, June 10 (UPI) -- Broadway stars Andrew Rannells, Megan Hilty and Laura Benanti joked about their failed forays into television in a musical number at the Tony Awards show.

NBC recently canceled all of their shows -- Rannells' "The New Normal," Hilty's "Smash" and Benanti's "Go On."

The trio joined Tony Awards host Neil Patrick Harris on stage at Radio City Music Hall Sunday night to sing a song about how happy they are to return to the theater after their television shows did not work out.

Harris is the star of "How I Met Your Mother," which is going into its ninth and final season next fall.
