LOS ANGELES, May 30 (UPI) -- Steve Carell dressed as his bald, heavy-set "Despicable Me" character Gru during a visit to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Thursday.

The former star of "The Office" dropped by the daytime chat show to promote his animated film "Despicable Me 2," set for release July 3.

Wearing a bald skull cap, fat suit and scarf, Carell told DeGeneres in his Gru voice: "It's so good to be here. I've never been on television. What a crowd!"

Carell as Gru joked about the only occasion on which he'd previously met DeGeneres.

"The one time I stood behind you in line at the Starbucks," he said.
