LOS ANGELES, May 24 (UPI) -- One-time "American Idol" contestant Jennifer Hudson has signed on to serve as a judge on the U.S. singing competition series, E! News said Friday.

The Oscar- and Grammy Award-winning recording artist is expected to be joined by Kelly Clarkson and either Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken on the judges' panel for the show's 13th season.

Clarkson, Lambert and Aiken are also "Idol" veterans.

"It's 'Idol' alums bringing in the next generation," one Fox source told E! News.

Although no casting has been officially announced for next season, current judges Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson have already confirmed they are leaving while Mariah Carey and Keith Urban's futures with the show have been unclear.
