Denmark's De Forest the betting fave for Eurovision Song finals

MALMO, Sweden, May 18 (UPI) -- Oddsmakers pegged Emmelie de Forest as the favorite to win the Eurovision Song Contest finals in Sweden Saturday.

The Danish songbird was a 4-to-6 favorite to carry the competition with her tune "Only Teardrops," bookmakers William Hill told the BBC.

"Emmelie looks very hard to beat and she could spark the biggest payout in the Eurovision's long and distinguished history," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

Britain's Bonnie Tyler was not getting much respect from the hometown punters, who had her at 50-to-1 Saturday.

"It looks like the public have given up on our chances and Bonnie is simply friendless," Adams observed.

William Hill told the BBC the strongest competition for De Forest -- in the opinion of the punting public -- was from Norway and Ukraine.

The Eurovision Song Contest pits 26 European singers in a tournament setting. Britain, Germany, Italy, France and Spain automatically qualify for the finals.
