LOS ANGELES, May 17 (UPI) -- "Zombieland" creator Rhett Reese said via Twitter Amazon passed on making a U.S. series inspired by the film because some fans hated the pilot.

Amazon ordered and aired numerous pilots and invited viewers to vote on their favorites, the most popular of which are to be made into online series.

However, despite earning more favorable reviews than negative ones, Reese tweeted Thursday the show "will not be moving forward on Amazon. Sad for everyone involved."

"I'll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence," he said via Twitter. "Anyway, we did our best, and we're very proud of our team."

"Zombieland" was a 2009 blockbuster action-comedy film starring Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson.
