LOS ANGELES, May 16 (UPI) -- Style Media says Grammy Award winner and designer Pharrell Williams is to serve as a mentor on the new U.S. fashion competition series "Styled to Rock."

Executive produced by Rihanna, the 10-episode show is to premiere this year.

It will give 12 up-and-coming designers the opportunity of a lifetime -- to create unique fashion pieces for A-list celebrity talent.

"We are delighted to have Pharrell, who is a driving force in both the music industry and fashion world, serve as a mentor on 'Styled to Rock," Salaam Coleman Smith, president of Style Media, said in a statement Wednesday. "Pharrell's unique aesthetic and commitment to individuality combined with Rihanna's vision for this series will enable our aspiring designers to hone their craft and learn from the very people who set the trends."
