LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) -- "American Idol" Season 9 runner-up Crystal Bowersox and musician Brian Walker have announced they split up after more than two years of marriage.

Bowersox and Walker married in 2010 following a weeks-long courtship.

"After two and a half years, we have decided to end our marriage," the couple said in a statement Monday to People.com. "The friendship and love which brought us together remains strong, and we will continue to support each other in our careers and personal lives. We are hopeful that people will be respectful of our privacy as we face this emotional and challenging time for our family."

No reason was given for the breakup.
