LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) -- Longtime Los Angeles broadcast journalist Mario Machado, who played newsmen in several films and TV shows, has died at the age of 78, his family said.

His daughter Michelle told the Los Angeles Times the Shanghai-born news anchor and occasional actor had Parkinson's disease and died of complications of pneumonia Saturday at a convalescent facility in West Hills, Calif.

Among his credits were "Oh, God!," "Scarface," "Rocky III," "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Brian's Song."

He also appeared in three "RoboCop" movies, the Times said.
