MCINTYRE, Ga., May 5 (UPI) -- Mama June and Papa Bear, the parents of reality show star Honey Boo Boo, exchanged vows in the back yard of their Georgia home Sunday, People magazine reported.

But June Shannon, 33, known as Mama June on the TLC show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," and Mike Thompson, 41, whose nickname is Sugar Bear, wouldn't say whether the ceremony meant they are actually married or just recommitted to each other, People said.

The couple met in an online chat room nine years ago. The pair later gave birth to Alana Thompson, aka Honey Boo Boo, now 7.

TMZ.com reported the people who were worked the wedding were instructed to wear hot pink or camouflage clothing.

People said Honey Boo Boo's big sisters -- Pumpkin, Chickadee and Chubbs -- also were on hand and that there was plenty of barbecue to go around.

"The day was very special mostly because my girls were able to take part in it," Mama June said. "I felt like it was important for them to see this moment and celebrate my love for Sugar Bear.

"My sister baked the cake, and we spent most of the money on barbecue. We stayed true to our roots and made the focus on the family and my commitment to Sugar Bear. You can definitely plan an event on a budget!"

While she wouldn't confirm the ceremony constituted an official marriage, Mama June laid out her requirements in a relationship.

"Never settle for a man who doesn't treat you right," she said. "If a guy doesn't love everything about you, move on! There are plenty of other fish in the sea.

"I give this advice to my daughters, because I always want them to be themselves and surround themselves with people who love them for them."
