LOS ANGELES, April 15 (UPI) -- Comedian Kevin Hart said via Twitter his weekend arrest in California for allegedly driving under the influence has been a "wake up call."

The California Highway Patrol said Hart was arrested on suspicion of DUI about 4:30 a.m. Sunday after he was seen driving erratically at a high rate of speed.

E! News reported the entertainer was arrested after failing a field sobriety test and lodged for several hours at Van Nuys jail. He was released after posting $5,000 bond.

"I'm officially a thug, I spent 6hrs in jail last night...I got pulled over 3blocks from my house by a [expletive] head cop," Hart tweeted. "This cop was the worst, he knew who I was & wanted to make a example out of me....

"I did 6,000 push ups & 13,000 sit ups while I was in the pin....shout out to my celly "Mark" we exchanged war stories LMFAO...When the cop asked me to take the sobriety test I said "WHY WASTE OUR TIME...I'M DRUNK MAN" ..... #TrueStory"

A subsequent tweet indicated Hart understood the severity of the situation, however.
