NEW YORK, April 4 (UPI) -- Actor Christopher Abbott will not return for Season 3 of HBO's New York-set comedy series "Girls" due to a conflict with the show's creator, E! News reported.

HBO confirmed Abbott's departure to the entertainment news outlet, but did not specify what sparked it.

Sources told E! the actor didn't agree with the show's creator, writer and producer, Lena Dunham, regarding the direction his character Charlie would take in Season 3, which is shooting now.
