LOS ANGELES, March 14 (UPI) -- Oscar winner Ang Lee is to make his U.S. television directorial debut with an FX pilot called "Tyrant," FX Networks President John Landgraf said Thursday.

Lee won his second Best Director Oscar last month for his work on "Life of Pi." He previously won the prize for helming "Brokeback Mountain."

His small-screen project "Tyrant" will follow "the story of an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation," EW.com reported.

"Ang Lee has demonstrated time and again an ability to present characters with such depth and specificity that they reveal the universal human condition," Landgraf said in a statement. "No one could be a more perfect filmmaker to bring Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff and Craig Wright's 'Tyrant' to indelible life."

Lee's other film credits include "The Ice Storm," "Sense and Sensibility," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Sense and Sensibility."
