NEW YORK, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Production began Thursday in Wilmington, N.C., on "Under the Dome," a new drama series based on Stephen King's novel, CBS announced.

Niels Arden Oplev is helming the first episode of the show, which is to premiere June 24. Oplev directed the original Swedish version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

The CBS series he is working on is about a small town that is "suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by a massive transparent dome," a synopsis said. It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy and Aisha Hinds.
