LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Kathy Bates is in talks to play the nemesis of fellow Oscar-winner Jessica Lange's character on TV's "American Horror Story" for Season 3, TVLine said.

No details -- other than the fact the two women's characters were once friends -- were reported.

Each season of the show is set in different locations and time periods. Returning cast members, such as Lange, play new roles each season.

This would be the first time Bates appears on the show.

Also returning for Season 3 are "Horror Story" veterans Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga and Frances Conroy.

Bates, whose film credits include "Misery" and "Titanic," was recently seen on the TV shows "The Office" and "Harry's Law."
