LONDON, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- British network ITV won three prizes at the Royal Television Society's Journalism Awards ceremony for its reporting of the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.

The expose was named Scoop of the Year in London Wednesday.

ITV also earned the awards for Home News Coverage and Home Current Affairs.

The network broke the story after the BBC's "Newsnight" program dropped its investigation into allegations Savile, a famous BBC presenter, had sexually abused hundreds of girls and teens, sometimes in BBC studios.

Savile died in October 2011 at the age of 84.
