LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has nominated "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" for a leading nine Saturn Awards.

The academy honors the best in genre entertainment frequently overlooked by more mainstream awards presenters.

"Life of Pi" earned eight nods, while "Skyfall" is up for seven prizes.

"Marvel's The Avengers," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Les Miserables" were nominated for six Saturn Awards apiece.

"Fringe" led the field in the television categories with six nominations and "Dexter" was close behind with five.

"Breaking Bad," "Falling Skies," "Leverage," "Revolution" and "The Walking Dead" are each in the running for four honors.
