911 dialed from Couric's late husband's phone

NEW YORK, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- At least 10 911 calls have been placed from a phone number registered to talk-show host Katie Couric's late husband, the New York Daily News reported.

The calls from Jay Monahan's land-line at Couric's Manhattan apartment have been made Tuesdays at 2 a.m., prompting dispatchers to send police to the address to investigate.

The Daily News said Couric talked about the occurrences with her studio audience for "Katie" during a break in taping of the show Tuesday.

"So I called [Police Commissioner] Ray Kelly, who I know just through the years seeing at different things. 'Ray, this is so weird but can you help me? I don't know what to do,'" an audience member told the newspaper Couric said.

The veteran broadcast journalist reportedly also said she thought the incidents were swatting pranks, but was still disturbed enough to lose sleep over them.

Couric's husband, an attorney, died of colon cancer in 1998.
