LOS ANGELES, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- CBS says it plans to air a program about how producers re-organized the 2012 Grammy Awards ceremony after the shocking death of U.S. singer Whitney Houston.

Houston drowned in her hotel bathtub Feb. 11, 2012, the day before she was to attend the awards show. The Grammy Awards took place as scheduled Feb. 12, including tributes to the 48-year-old recording star.

CBS said it will air a 1-hour special, "The Grammys Will Go On: A Death in the Family," Feb. 9.

The program will look at how producers revamped the broadcast to include an opening prayer from host LL Cool J and performance by Jennifer Hudson of Houston's classic song "I Will Always Love You."

"In an ordinary year, the Grammys is a really tough show to produce; it's live and things happen behind-the-scenes at the last minute that you never expect," Jack Sussman, CBS executive vice president of specials, music and live events, said in a statement. "But every year the people behind this show find ways to make 11th-hour creative adjustments resulting in memorable moments that you only see on the Grammys. This special is a very entertaining peek behind the curtain at the extra-extraordinary circumstances of last year, and how some of the biggest stars in the musical world came together for a television broadcast that will be remembered for many years to come."
