LOS ANGELES, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Steve Burton, who left "General Hospital" three months ago after more than 20 years, is to join the cast of "The Young & The Restless."

TVGuide.com cited unnamed but reliable sources for the casting news, noting CBS has not confirmed it yet.

Burton is good friends with "Y&R" executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, his former boss at "GH" and a collaborator on a upcoming telenovela project, TVGuide.com said.

The actor's new character and storyline on "Y&R" were not immediately known.
