LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Executive producer Robert Kirkman says "The Walking Dead" won't flash back to explain how the Georgia-set show's zombie outbreak began.

Starring Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs and David Morrissey as people trying to escape legions of the undead, the series recently wrapped its Season 3 mid-season finale.

Asked if the show will backtrack to fill in how the outbreak started and the main characters escaped, Kirkman told TVGuide.com, "I don't find that to be interesting at all.

"In zombie fiction, you see the outbreak, you see the first days and the craziness in almost every other story told in this realm. I'm very proud of the fact that, for the most part, 'The Walking Dead' has skipped over that part," he said. "Go watch Zach Snyder's 'Dawn of the Dead' movie to see the early days of this, or 'Shaun of the Dead' does it really well."
