NEW YORK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Syfy says it has renewed its Hollywood makeup design competition series "Face Off" for a fourth season.

The announcement was made Monday by Mark Stern, president of original content for Syfy and co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions.

The new season is slated for a 2013 premiere. Director Bryan Singer will make a guest appearance in an upcoming episode. Singer's films include "The Usual Suspects," the X-Men film franchise and "Superman Returns."

"'Face Off' has proven itself as a quality, signature series for Syfy," Stern said in a statement. "The success the series has achieved in its three seasons -- from both a critical and ratings standpoint -- establishes a strong foundation as we continue to build the momentum for Season 4. It's a pleasure to continue to showcase talented special effects artists with this addictive program."
